Expertise: Mr. Magee has extensive experience in business-related issues, including non-bankruptcy workouts, turnarounds, restructurings, as well as bankruptcy proceedings in all chapters of the code. Since founding the firm in 1986, he was a trustee in bankruptcy for 15 years, has served as lead counsel for debtors, creditors’ committees, and secured lenders in more than 100 chapter 11 bankruptcy cases, and has an established reputation handling complex financial problems – on both sides of the aisle. His clients have included start-ups, high-tech companies, distribution, manufacturing, transportation, healthcare, pharmaceutical companies, as well as traditional businesses and real estate developers.
Recognition and community: Mr. Magee has been featured, quoted, and published in The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Washington Post, Richmond Times-Dispatch, Roanoke Times, The Roanoker magazine, Blue Ridge Business Journal, Front magazine, and other regional and national publications. He is a professor of practice at Washington and Lee University School of Law, where he helped launch the school’s third year practicum, an innovative approach to prepare law students for the practice of law. He currently teaches a third year failing businesses practicum. For many years, he has served as a moderator and lecturer for Virginia Continuing Legal Education programs and the American Bankruptcy Institute, among numerous other educational programs. He is currently a member of the Bar of the Supreme Court of the United States, Virginia State Bar, Virginia Bar Association, and the Roanoke Bar Association.
He was a founder and the first president of the Small Business Development Center in Roanoke, Virginia. The SBDC has since assisted hundreds of small businesses with their strategic and financial plans.
Education: Mr. Magee graduated from Hampden-Sydney College in 1976 with a Bachelor of Arts in English. He received his Juris Doctor from Washington and Lee University School of Law in 1979.
Personal: An avid pilot, Mr. Magee resides in Roanoke, Virginia, with his wife and three children.
